How to quickly connect AirPods to your iPhone or Mac

AirPods come with many convenient features, including Adaptive Sound and Transparency Mode. The latest AirPods also bring optional active noise cancellation to the non-Pro line.

If you have an iCloud account, Apple has made it easier to pair your MacBook and AirPods together 4th generation AirPods or 2nd generation AirPods Pro And very quickly.

Your AirPods will automatically connect to your Mac.

If you've already set up your AirPods with your iPhone and your Mac is signed in to iCloud using the same Apple ID, you should be all set. To check, place your AirPods in your ears and make sure the Bluetooth or Volume drop-down menu in your Mac menu bar is turned on. Then choose AirPods from the list.

You can also go to System Settings, then Bluetooth, and find your AirPods in the list.

What should I do if my AirPods won't pair by themselves?

If you don't find your AirPods in the list, there are a few things you can do.

1. Charge your AirPods. Make sure these small devices are properly charged.

2. Open Bluetooth preferences on your Mac. You can either go to the Bluetooth drop-down menu in the menu bar and select Bluetooth Settings, or go to the Apple menu, select System Settings, and click Bluetooth.

3. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on.

4. Place both earphones in their charging case and open the cover.

5. Press and hold the setting button on the back of the AirPods case until the status light flashes white.

6. Return to the Bluetooth settings window on your Mac and select AirPods from the list of devices.

7. Finally, click Connect.

If sound is still coming from your Mac's speakers, check the Bluetooth or Volume drop-down menu in the menu bar and make sure your AirPods are selected as the audio output.

Now you can listen to music from your phone or Mac without changing your earbuds or headphones.
