Hawaiian Airlines flight: At least 36 people were injured in severe turbulence

At least 36 people on board a Hawaiian Airlines flight were injured Sunday following severe turbulence, authorities said.

20 passengers on the Phoenix-Honolulu flight have been taken to the emergency room. Among them, 11 people are in critical condition. A 14-month-old is one of them.

The Honolulu Emergency Medical Service reported loss of consciousness, head trauma, bruises and cuts as the injuries suffered by some of the victims.

The company said Hawaiian Airlines is “supporting all affected passengers and employees” and is monitoring the situation.

“A number of passengers and crew members were given medical treatment at the airport for minor injuries, while others were rushed to local hospitals for further treatment,” Hawaiian Airlines wrote on Twitter.

The disturbance occurred 30 minutes before the plane touched down in Honolulu.

The Hawaiian Airlines flight, an Airbus 330, reported a turbulence around 10:35 a.m. Hawaii Standard Time, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the accident.
