Cristiano Ronaldo, 37, does not intend to retire immediately and even sees himself playing Euro 2024 with Portugal in a year and a half in Germany.
The upcoming World Cup in Qatar (November 20-December 18) should not be Cristiano Ronaldo’s last major international tournament. At 37, the five-time Ballon d’Or player sees himself playing at least one more season, thus competing for Portugal at Euro 2024 staged in a year and a half in Germany, when he turns 39.
“My journey is not over yet. You will have to support Chris for a longer period,” he said on Tuesday evening when he was presented with the Quinas de Oro award for the best scorer in the selections, given by the Portuguese Football Federation. “I want to be present at the World Cup (2022) and at the Euros (2024) (…). I feel very motivated. “My ambition is great,” added the Portuguese star.
With the Portugal national team, Cristiano Ronaldo, winner of Euro 2016 in France, has 189 caps and holds the world record for goals for the national team with 117 accomplishments. If his presence in the World Cup Qatar and the Euro is confirmed, he will play in his tenth and eleventh major international tournament. And in the event of participating in Euros, “CR7”, which already holds the record for goals in the competition (14 goals), will become the only player to reach six final stages, overtaking former Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas.
