Percussionists can move from the triangle to the jawbone of a donkey, from the cymbal to the Chinese cymbal, and from the vibraphone to the wind instrument, the percussionists are undoubtedly the most atypical figures in classical orchestras. It will not be surprising: many of them quickly parted ways, calling themselves the most diverse art forms. That’s what Paul Changarnier, Nicolas Cousin and Alexandre Esprit did, after they set their sights on the marimba. – A cousin of the xylophone from Latin America – decided to entrust him with their artistic dreams. For him, they adapted Bach, Satie and Ravel as well as the magnificent flower of contemporary composers. Thus, the triple SR9, or “square root 9”, the square root of nine, has received the most prestigious awards. They are back with a new cover album.

Thanks to an impressive device, the Trio SR9 took over the Côté Club studio: vibraphone, marimba, percussion and even Homemade marimba, able to imitate the famous bass of the TR-808 drum machine Or even recycled materials. The always eager trio invited to collaborate, on this latest album the singer Camille and Sandra Nkaki or Camelia Jordana for the covers of Pharrell Williams, Billie Eilish and Lana Del Rey.

They will be in concert on 4/10 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris in collaboration with Théâtre de la Ville and on 29/10 at the Opera de Lyon

Flavian Berger and Céline Defoe met when they were still students, ten years ago. Animation specialist Celine specially directed the music video gravity to Flavian. So the creative process took place in two parts for this new project. The director gives precise directions and Flavian uses it as musical direction. He remembers a certain anecdote: “ Celine has very specific ideas of what she wants to hear. Her handwriting is very sonorous. The movie that featured Lisbon, the musician as background, had to try different compositions So as not to fall into the cliché of using Portuguese folklore to illustrate the Portuguese capital: “I didn’t particularly want to use fado songs, for example. I became more attached to aspects of the city. Like the fact that it was constantly under construction. I even used a children’s choir in Portugal.”

The SR9 trio will attend a concert at the Théâtre Musical du Châtelet in Paris on October 4 and at the Opera de Lyon on October 28.
