Fabio Quartararo, Portuguese Grand Prix winner: ‘It’s a dream’

Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha, Portimao winner, with mic Canal+): “I’m very happy! From the warm-up, I felt like I had something more, but I knew that if I didn’t do the first lap well, it could ruin the win and the podium. That’s why I was so strong to take the lead and get that first win in a while.” It’s a dream because the first part of the season was very complicated, but I never gave up. I didn’t expect to be able to keep up with this pace, I found some positive points that should help us at Jerez.

I am very optimistic about this race, and thanks to this win I will be full of confidence in this circuit that I love. I had physical problems there last year but this year I’m in better shape and the goal will necessarily be high. I learned a lot of things in complicated times like Argentina and the United States, and now I’m able to do things I never did before. I feel really good now. »

Johann Zarco (Ducati Pramac, 2nd place, in the channel + microphone): “My start wasn’t great, we had some clutch issues this weekend but starting the turns helps limit the damage. Confidence was good from the first corner and then I saw I was good in Turns 13 and 14 and that’s where I got on Alex Marquez and then Jack Miller. These were important moments in the race because they allowed me to find myself third behind Fabio and Mir. I went back to them and thought first pass Mir to fight Fabio, but I quickly felt he was ahead, that he was going too fast for me , so I got into economics behind Meyer.

Then, when Miller came back to us, I decided to continue attacking Mir and after a mistake in my first attack, I was able to finish second in the second. Driving without anyone in front of me, I had a hard time imposing my own pace. It was a little complicated, but the clash between Miller and Meyer gave me some leeway. Alex Espargaro got back to me at the end of the race, but I kept my energy to attack on the last lap and stay ahead. Marseille was beautiful, she didn’t play for me but at least I was able to sing it. Fabio immediately started strong. When he can enforce his style, he goes really fast. It was his race, he widened the gap and then he managed to get ahead but that second place is really good for me, I passed a huge achievement and that’s good! »
