At the end of “The Empire Strikes Back,” Lando Calrissian's character Baron displays a cool detail that says a lot about his character: his costume.

When we talk about characters from the Star Wars universe, it won't take long for the name Lando Calrissian to appear on fans' lips! A smuggler who became the “Baron Administrator” of the Cloud City of Bespin, we first meet Calrissian in The Empire Strikes Back when the heroes come to ask him for help.

The character's youth was explored in Solo: A Star Wars Story as Donald Glover, but his original voice, Billy Dee Williams, appeared again in live-action in Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Recently, he was asked a question that has tickled many fans since 1980.

Podcast guest Inside You with Michael RosenbaumThe actor had to answer this thorny question: “How did Lando end up dressing as Han Solo at the end of The Empire Strikes Back?” Question answered succinctly “They are lovers.”

It's clearly a joke to dodge a question that is still held in high esteem. Because after selling Han Solo to Darth Vader, resulting in him being frozen in carbonite, Lando redeems himself from the Resistance and ends the film under the command of the Millennium Falcon alongside his loyal Chewbacca, obviously dressed as Solo!

Solo vs. Lando

In other words, after being “betrayed” and then “borrowed” by his ship, he's clearly helped himself to the wardrobe of the galaxy's most famous smuggler! And so we recognize the same jacket with front pockets and perhaps the same shirt… What a crook, this is Lando Calrissian!

Perhaps only the Star Wars saga has been able to generate such nuanced questions, and even now! The fact that Calrissian probably stole Han Solo's clothes fits well with the character's mentality and the way George Lucas and his director Irvin Kershner wanted to portray him on screen…it works!
