Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron, dinner at the Elysee Palace for the Portuguese President

Emmanuel Macron and Brigitte Macron received the Portuguese President on Friday evening at the Elysee Palace to launch the Franco-Portuguese Cross season.

Emmanuel Macron and his Portuguese counterpart Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa inaugurated the French-Portuguese Cross season Friday evening in Paris, which will present nearly 500 cultural events in the two countries through October. This eight-month season was launched over a dinner at the Elysee Palace that brought together the two presidents with one hundred guests: ministers, artists, businessmen and personalities “representing the links between France and Portugal,” according to the Elysee. Among those guests are singers Linda de Souza and Helena Nogueira, model Barbara Cabretta, actor Luis Rego or designer Philippe Starck.

The organization of this season was decided during Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Lisbon in July 2018, where he was received by Prime Minister Antonio Costa. It presents 480 events in 87 cities in France and 55 cities in Portugal, with the participation of more than 800 artists, researchers and thinkers …

This will be an opportunity to highlight the closeness and friendship that binds the two countries, exemplified by the presence of a very large community of the Luso dynasty in France, and in Portugal a growing number of French expatriates, according to its organizers. “Fortunately, Portugal today is much more than a country of saudade. Although faithful to the past and its traditions, it is the contemporary and innovative Portugal that we invite you to discover”, confirms Antonio Costa in the show of the season.
