Dinosaur bones 25 meters long were found in Portugal

The remains of a sauropod 25 meters long and 12 meters high were found in a park in Portugal, in Pombal, between Lisbon and Porto. The owner of the building reported in 2017 the presence of fossils.

An amazing find. A remarkable sauropod was recently discovered in a Portuguese garden. According to researchers’ first estimates, this dinosaur could have reached 25 meters in length and 12 meters in height, making it the largest ever find in Europe.

Sauropods are four-legged herbivorous dinosaurs, including brontosaurs and Diplodocus, with long necks and long tails.

But this could be the largest specimen ever discovered in Europe. His remains were exhumed in early August, according to The Guardian.

150 million years

The Spanish and Portuguese paleontologists who excavated the site did not expect such a treasure: “It is not usual to find all the ribs of an animal like this,” Elisabeth Malavia, a researcher from the University of Lisbon, confirmed to Phys.org.

The originality of the find, in addition to its rarity, lies in the position in which the bones were found.

Its “normal” anatomical position, according to Elizabeth Malavia, gives hope for finding other elements of the skeleton of this sauropod, which could have settled there for 150 million years.
