Democratic Republic of the Congo: Maniema and Portugal’s Future Motion sign $212 million contract for asphalting 138 km of roads

The central-eastern province of Maniema and the Portuguese company “Future Motion” signed a contract to build 138 kilometers of roads for a total of 212 million US dollars.

This contract was signed on March 12, 2022 between the two parties.

This project will be made possible thanks to funding from the African Development Bank (AfDB).

Maniema Province was represented during this ceremony by the interim governor, Avani Idrissa, who immediately indicated that the duration of this work is 36 months.

This contract discloses, to the Regional Executive, the paving of 138 kilometers of the Kendo Katuba Road on the border between Maniema Province and Sankuru Province, as well as the construction of a port on the Lomami River in Katuba.

Avani Idrissa pointed out that this project also provides for the construction of many public buildings including the official residences of the governor, his deputy, members of the provincial government and the office of the provincial council.

For his part, the representative of Future Motion, Rene Kalonda, confirmed that the conclusion of this contract will allow the opening of the province of Maniema.

According to his explanations, “the various products will reach this province from Kinshasa by the Congo River and then the Lomami River where the Katoba port will be located.”

Note that this work is expected to start within the next forty (40) days.
