On Wednesday, Barcelona announced the departure of Matteo Alemany through a press release. The manager is said to have accepted an offer from Aston Villa and left the Blaugrana side due to internal issues. Joan Laporta is already considering a name for his successor.
According to information from Rak-1Deco could soon play a key role in Barcelona. The Catalan club was considering him for the position of director of football.
Already involved in the Barcelona transfer window as a specialist in the Brazilian and Portuguese leagues, Deco has influenced the recruitment of players such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Rafinha, of whom he was an agent, in recent years.
Close relationship with Joan Laporta
Having played for Barcelona for four seasons during Rijkaard’s tenure, Deco is said to have maintained close ties with Joan Laporta. He also supported the latter during the presidential elections, before returning to the club.
Following the departure of Andre Curie, former head of Barcelona’s South American recruitment cell, Déco has taken charge of the Brazilian and Portuguese markets. Deco is also familiar with the position of Technical Secretary, which he once held for the Gabon Football Association, where he worked thanks to his relationship with Laporta and, above all, with Alejandro Echevarria, his former brother-in-law.
But Alejandro Echevarria also has close ties to Lionel Messi. Joan Laporta will use him as an intermediary to reconnect with the Argentine and persuade him to return to Barcelona. This rapprochement between the two men could play in favor of appointing Deco to a key position in the Catalan club.
