Available on all Insomniac PS5 games

Sony It was just announced on Monday that the PlayStation 5’s Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) feature will be rolling out this week. Some players have been able to test this new technology on a large number of compatible games. Apparently, it provides the promised performance boost.

What is Variable Refresh Rate or VRR Support? How is it activated?

VRR is the first acronym taken from Variable Refresh Rate. As its name suggests, it represents the variable refresh rate applied to an image to improve its clarity. Its main purpose is to eliminate tearing, which is a visual problem that causes the image to flicker on the TV.

It should be noted that VRR is a feature of the latest generation of TVs or monitors that use the HDMI 2.1 standard. So Sony specified in its announcement that this support will be activated automatically for all those who have a compatible monitor.

If you want to make sure this is the case for your device, just go to your PS5 settings, on the Screen & Video tab. In the Video Output section, you will see the setting dedicated to VRR. It is located just above HDR. From there, the automatic settings for this technology can still be disabled. You can also apply it to incompatible games.

Below is a list of games that are already compatible with this technology

During its announcement, Sony revealed that some games will be getting patches to support VRR. We still have to wait for the next few weeks. In contrast, all PS5 titles from Insomniac already use this feature. This relates in particular to:

  • Astro game room
  • Call of Duty: Vanguard
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (English version)
  • ring of death
  • Fate 2
  • Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition
  • dirt 5
  • Goodvale
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  • Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart
  • Resident Evil Village
  • Wonders of Tiny Tina

  • Midgard Tribes

The months that Sony mentioned at the end of March will only be one month. The Japanese manufacturer will actually start rolling out this update from the last week of April.

Conclusion

The introduction of this feature in PS5s will allow this console to be compatible with the Xbox X and S series consoles. They have offered VRR since their first day. This feature will intensify the visual performance of games by reducing or eliminating screen tearing.
