He recalls his complicated start with Monaco, on September 20, 2015, and the special management of Leonardo Jardim: “The first chance he gave me, in front of our fans, he sent me off after 35 minutes! In Seville, the coach doesn’t like him
“I arrived and found a coach (Julen Lopetegui, editor’s note) with whom I only play Europa League on Thursdays. On weekends, for La Liga, I am at home. I am not even with the team. […] Repeat that I will be very important. After confinement, he told me, “You are in very good physical condition, even better than those who play in your position, but I will make the others play.” Once, I am next to a teammate, who arrives and asks him how you are, and he does not ask me anything. I thought to myself: “Who am I here?” I have always remained professional. It’s just that the coach doesn’t like me, that’s all. »
Misunderstanding in Olympiacos
To relaunch his career, Ronnie Lopez was loaned to Nice (2020-2021) and then to Olympiacos (2021-2022).
Within the Greek club, he won the championship but was a substitute. Again, he doesn’t understand his coach’s choice: “I didn’t really understand why I was a substitute. However, it was the coach, Pedro Martins, who called me. At some point, I started saying to myself: ‘Is this my fault?’ Am I not doing things right?”
A career wrecked by injuries
Ronnie Lopez believes his career has been hampered above all by his many injuries: “They ruined my career. They always came when I was riding and lasted several weeks. And they were always hamstrings: three left and three right. Nobody could tell me where the problem came from. I’ve been looking for the explanation almost my whole life! I saw myself in Real Madrid or Barcelona or even Manchester City. I think I could have been there. That’s what’s hard. Sometimes I think in my head, ‘Where would I have been without these injuries?’ “I want to know. Perhaps I can really be at that level today.”
